Moss roses have thick, succulent stems covered with needle-like leaves. Flowers are huge (1 inch or more in diameter) and brightly colored in oranges, reds and neon pink. You can also find pastel flowers, too, so read the tags carefully. These plants love heat and dry conditions and even thrive in sandy soils. If you've got good conditions in your garden, they'll adapt to that, too. Love full sun! Do not fertilize except when you transplant. No need to deadhead, but if plants get scraggly, cut them back and they will recover and re-bloom. The flowers close up on cloudy days and in the evening, so don't be dismayed if your newly transplanted moss roses close their faces right away.
